Get Over Your Ex with these 4 Perfect Breakup Songs

Justin Bieber recently closed his Instagram account due to hurtful comments from his ex, Selena Gomez, and for comments about his current squeeze, Sofia Richie. Think Selena’s bitter about being replaced? (I vote yes!)

Selena famously wrote a song about their breakup, called “Love Will Remember,” where she sings, “You said you loved me, I said I loved you back/What happened to that? What happened to that?” *sniff, sniff* Poor Selena…

Reading this news about Bieber made me think about some of the best breakup songs. So if you need a few songs to help you get over your summer fling, here are 4 of my favorite!

1. “Love Yourself” by none other than Bieber himself. Is it about Kendall Jenner (doubtful), Jayde Pierce (likely) or Selena Gomez (probably)? We’ll never know for sure. It’s as Justin said, “The only thing I don’t want people to ever know is ‘Love yourself.’ I don’t want people to know who that’s about.”
Best lyric – “My mama don’t like you, and she likes everyone.”

2. “Easy” by Lionel Richie. As Biebs is dating Lionel’s daughter, I thought this song appropriately made the list. It gives a much more positive spin on breakups than the usual breakup song. Think more relief and less tears.
Best lyric – “I wanna be free to know/ The things I do are right/ I wanna be free; Just me!”

3. “So What” by P!nk. When P!nk was headed to divorce her husband, Carey Hart, she penned this song. Reaching #1 on the U.S. charts, this gutsy and honest breakup ballad deserves to be turned all the way up!
Best lyric – “So, so what?/I am a rock star/I got my rock moves/And I don’t want you tonight!”

4. “Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift. While Taylor has written upwards of a dozen hit songs about her exes, this one is different. It’s more of a wistful smile and bittersweet memory than her usual style. She explains her current take on relationships, “’When this ends, I hope it ends well. I hope you remember me well,’ which is not anything close to the way I used to think about relationships.”
Best lyric – “Say you’ll remember me/Standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe/Red lips and rosy cheeks/Say you’ll see me again even if it’s just in your wildest dreams.”
